About the Innovation Zone
The innovation ecosystem at COP27 ran for the entire duration of COP, alongside the Blue and Green Zones. The Innovation Zone attracted over 10,000 visits and served as a launchpad for public and private stakeholders to turn climate ambition into action.
The 6000m² purpose built venue offered a multitude of event spaces and showcased over 50 exhibitors across the Zone. Boasting a range of public and private events, lively forums, intimate and informal places to collaborate as well as exhibitions from world-leading climate innovators, the Innovation Zone was the central hub for decisive action on climate at COP27.
About the Organiser
Climate Action is a mission-led business that has worked at the intersection of climate change policy, innovation and sustainable finance since 2007. Our goal is to accelerate the transition to a global green economy by helping to achieve the aims of the Paris Agreement and the realisation of the Sustainable Development Goals. Our digital and live event platforms build tangible partnerships between business, government, UN agencies and NGOs with over 130,000 subscribers globally.
Climate Action has run the annual Sustainable Innovation Forum at COP since COP16 in Cancun. The Forum is widely recognised as the largest multi-stakeholder side event at the annual UN Climate Change Conference - with a strong focus on the role of the global business community in creating the systemic change we need.
In 2021 we launched the inaugural Innovation Zone at COP26 in Glasgow for mission-led organisations wanting to drive forward the innovation and finance agenda at COP. Building on its success, the 2022 Innovation Zone at COP27 was an ambitious and highly acclaimed 6000m² hub for cross sector collaboration which welcomed almost 10,000 visits and hosted over 100 events. Watch this space for our exciting plans for COP28 in Dubai this year.
Accelerating solutions at UN climate change conferences since 2010
“We received a lot of great feedback that the Innovation Zone really did prove to be the centre of gravity for policymakers, business leaders, investors, and innovators at COP.”
Nathan Cooper, Lead, Partnerships and Engagement, First Movers Coalition, and Climate Strategy Advisor, World Economic Forum
“Climate Action brings people together who are passing each other like ships in the night at COP or sort of bumping into each other in the course of different initiatives. But this is an event that has a sustained and thoughtful programme around what are the multiple perspectives that people are considering.”
Kirsten Dunlop, CEO, Climate-KIC
“The Innovation Zone was professionally run and offers an important hub for the private sector to come together and build partnerships to help decarbonize business models – thank you Climate Action for this opportunity.”
George Johnstone, Associate Director, Energy Transition Marketing, S&P Global Commodity Insights
“The Sustainable Innovation Forum 2022 sent a clear signal to all stakeholders of the importance of private sector commitment to scaling climate action. Innovative solutions and climate smart technologies are key to implementing the Paris Agreement. Pleased to have delivered a keynote address and share thoughts in the interview.”
Ovais Sarmed, Deputy Executive Secretary, UNFCCC
