Operation Possible at Trane Technologies: The Cooling Cart Story
We're pioneering a path toward a brighter future, and everyone is included. That's why we launched an employee-powered innovation program, called Operation Possible, to develop creative ways to tackle real problems we see in our world.
Take for instance, the frustrating fact that globally, 30% of the food produced is lost or wasted, while 1.3 billion people experience food insecurity. In many geographies and economies, street vendors are an important part of the local food supply chain. Yet, for decades, little investment has been made in how they keep fresh fruits and vegetables from spoiling in harsh weather conditions and preserve their income potential.
Through Operation Possible, our people set out to turn this long-standing problem into a chance at a more sustainable future. What began as an initial idea from an employee, turned into a design sprint team with members from five countries. The team consulted with street vendors on their greatest needs and began the quest to design and prototype an affordable cooling cart that leverages the latest innovations in passive cooling technology.
This is the story of the Cooling Cart, and how one simple spark of idea from an employee developed into a solution with great potential.
